Position Mission

The Lead Maintenance Controller works with the Director of Maintenance to oversee and coordinate all aircraft maintenance, ensuring FAA compliance. This role manages scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, coordinates with vendors and flight operations, maintains accurate records, and ensures all aircraft remain safe, airworthy, and operational with minimal downtime.

  • Partner with the Director of Maintenance (DOM) to manage, schedule, and monitor all aspects of aircraft maintenance, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Coordinate closely with maintenance vendors and the operations department to ensure aircraft availability and safety.
  • Ensure all aircraft remain airworthy and ready for flights, managing both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
  • Oversee and prioritize maintenance schedules to minimize downtime while meeting operational demands, coordinating with flight operations to avoid schedule conflicts.
  • Plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance events and aircraft upgrades.
  •  Serve as the central point of contact for maintenance-related issues, collaborating with vendors and contractors to ensure timely task completion.
  • Review aircraft logbooks and maintenance records, monitoring compliance with mandatory inspections, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FAA Part 135/91 regulations, manufacturer recommendations, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date maintenance documentation, including logbooks, work orders, and inspection records.
  • Manage aircraft service programs and prepare monthly utilization reports.
  • Other reasonably assigned duties by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • 10 years of previous experience in aircraft maintenance, particularly in a Part 135 or corporate aviation environment is required.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required. 
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification is required.
  •  Strong understanding of FAA regulations, including FAR Part 135, Part 145 and Part 91
  • Familiarity with Global, Gulfstream, Citation, King Air, Challenger, BBJ etc.
  • Proficiency in maintenance tracking software.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items not to exceed 50 pounds. 

 

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
  •  Formal or factory training
  • Past Part 135 experience
  •  Team-orientated and self-motivated.
  •  Attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
  •  Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

Work Environment

The employee’s primary workstation will be located at the Camarillo or Van Nuys Airport in an outdoor environment on airport ramps, inside aircraft hangars, and occasionally inside a standard office environment.

Position Type

This is a full-time exempt position, and hours of work are generally Monday thru Friday with standard office hours. Sun Air Jets is a 24/7, 365 operation. This position interacts with employees who work varied shifts and may occasionally require irregular business hours to support employees/aircraft maintenance needs. 

Compensation

Salary Range: $120-$150k Annual
